Personality:
Luis is a charismatic man with a vibrant, friendly personality. He's curious (nosy,) talkative (to his own detriment,) flirtatious (self-described "ladies' man,") and the kind of guy who's here for a good time in any situation. His is the sort of charm that will either instantly win you over or convince you he's up to something sketchy, with little space between. He is generally happy to let people dismiss him as sleazy, flighty, or foolish if it means they won't question what's going on underneath.

Because at odds with his slick, shady persona, Luis is actually a genius. He's immensely intelligent with a deep breadth of scientific knowledge in biology, chemistry, and engineering. His excitement for learning and dedication to research drive him, and he has a prodigious career as a doctor and researcher even at his relatively young age.

Unfortunately, Luis has a tendency to fixate on his research to the exclusion of all other factors-- including moral ones. He got his start at the infamously sinister Umbrella Corporation, where his genuine pharmaceutical advancements were ignored in favor of putting him to work on inhumane bioweapons. Running from Umbrella leads him into the laboratories of Los Illuminados, where his fascination with the Plaga parasite blinds him to the cult's dark aims until he's already too far in to flee.

Between his tunnelvision and a generally reckless demeanor, Luis has the tendency to end up neck-deep in trouble. Having his intellect used for ill, trusting the wrong people, getting repeatedly kidnapped, constantly trying to wiggle his way out of close calls-- he counts on his silver tongue and a little luck to see him out of situations. He's willing to fight when backed against a wall and is able to laugh off near-misses, but beneath the charismatic bravado Luis is riddled with guilt. He regrets his past mistakes and the harm his research has contributed to, and he believes he's a bad person who's lived a "shitty" life. However, he is trying as hard as he can to make things right, putting his own life at risk if it means no one else will get hurt.

Luis is determined to undo the damage he's done, even as he feels the noose tightening and his past catching up with him. When it does, as he lays dying from a stab wound, Luis professes his hope that people can change. Given the later significance of his efforts and his sacrifice, it seems that he was right.


Abilities:
- Scientist: Luis is a doctor of biology and his resume boasts work in parasitology, pathology, and chemistry/pharmaceutical development. He developed multiple OTC medications while working for Umbrella and also creates a suppressant for Las Plagas (out of wildly improvised materials.) He also shows some prowess for engineering, having built a surgical radiation device on his own.
- Charisma: A smooth-talker and a flirt, Luis is quick with a lie or a disarming smile or joke. It's clear that his friendly personality and his silver tongue have gotten him out of a lot of scrapes over the years.
- Genius: It's revealed that Luis was a child genius whose intellect and circumstances gave him an early start at university (age 13 or 14.) Hence why he's so young with all these accomplishments.
- Marksmanship/Combat: Thanks to a childhood in the superboonies (a luddite Catholic community,) Luis is competent with guns, using his trademark Red9 handgun and a bolt-action rifle. Though not a combatant if he can possible help it, if his back's against the wall he's a scrappy fighter who will throw down to survive. In canon he improvises weaponry including a piece of metal pipe and dynamite to great effect.

Eternal Reward: A chance for Luis' work to benefit humanity in some way, whether or not he's alive to see it

Goals/Ideas: Luis will be getting a job at the university fairly quickly, focusing on research and studying monsters and phenomena and teaching on the side. Otherwise, he can't resist the opportunity to party it up and get into trouble. The fun kind of trouble this time, he swears.
